As mentioned in a previous post (but reiterated here if you haven’t read the “Natural User Interface” post yet), I had attempted to do an audio recording of each of the girl’s recital pieces with my cell phone.  I managed to record 3 of the 5 pieces, but the microphone in my cellphone seems to be of inferior quality, and will never be mistaken for a recording studio.

So, on Sunday I had the girls play each of their recital pieces on our electronic keyboard, which is connected via a MIDI/USB cable to an old iMac, which is running an old version of GarageBand, which actually works surprisingly well.  I exported the songs to iTunes, and then to a different format (.m4a), which I was then able to convert to a standard mp3 file.  I’ll bet you were wondering all of the steps that I had to go through to bring you this post.  Wonder no longer…

Without any further rigmarole (We just hit the chapter in “The Emerald City of Oz” tonight, where they visit the Rigmaroles”), here is another picture of Mikaela, followed by the link to the mp3 file.  You should be able to doubleclick on the mp3 file and have it open in a player on your computer.  If that doesn’t work, let me know and I’ll add another step somewhere to the process.

Here’s the song “Send in the Clowns”, as performed by Mikaela Huber:  Mikaela_recital_June_2012

This afternoon (Saturday, June 16th) was the final piano recital of the 2011/2012 piano lesson year.  Danaya, Daelynn, and Mikaela each played one piece and did exceedingly well.  Heidi played two pieces, one of which she had written herself (with a little help from her piano teacher).  Here’s pictures of the girls performing (in order of appearance in the recital):

I tried making audio recordings of the performances with a recording app on my cellphone.  I succeeded in making recordings of 3 of the 5 songs, although when I listened to them it was obvious that the microphone on my cellphone is not match for a recording studio, or even a reasonable microphone.  I’d like to see if I can clean the recordings up a bit and then figure out a way to post them here on Hubcrate.com.

The recital itself lasted a little under an hour, and by the time it was down to the last couple of songs (out of a total of 20), Brock was done sitting still.  Lori was taking care of him at the far end of the row, and was having quite a time restraining him from making loud noises and clapping in the middle of songs.

Also, while Mikaela needed her music (Marian the teacher, introduced her as having forgotten her memory at home (Mikaela wasn’t the only one)), Danaya, Daelynn, and Heidi all played their songs from memory.

On our trip to the Redwoods back in 2004, the only large community in California that we visited was Crescent City.  Here’s a picture of Layne lugging Mikaela around at the playground we visited.

The one lingering memory that I have of Crescent City was how grimy it was, with lots of garbage around.  It was definitely a change from the Oregon communities that we were vacationing in.

And since you are wondering where the real scenery pictures are (since I took so many of them), here’s another one…

We had lunch in northern California – I believe this was just on the outskirts of Crescent City (more on that later).  Sadly, this was the last time that we ever saw our large green lunchbag – shown being bumped off the bench by Daelynn.  Lori still rues the losing of it, as it was really handy.

I should probably make up some tag to include with each Rett picture where he is making faces.  Let me know if you come up with any good ideas for it.

One of my purposes for the hubcrate.com site is sharing family photos.  The majority of photos that have been taken were around special family events, and most of those seem to be when we are on vacation.  Possibly that is when Dad is out of his everyday routine, and more in picture-taking mode.

The next series of photos that I’ll post are dated September 2004, and were taken during a day trip down the Oregon coast into the California redwoods.  To kick things off, here’s a picture of the kids (less Heidi who was a young toddler at the time).  True to form, Rett can’t keep a straight face while there is a photo-op going on.

We (the Ben Huber family, less the two older sons) spent the day on Sunday, May 27th at Cam & Coralie’s place, eating, fellow-shipping, playing board games, climbing on dirt piles, riding their quad.  Here’s some pictures (with of course, Pixlr-o-matic effects applied):

We got home really, really late, but a wonderful day was had by all.

I think we’ve covered everyone who was driving dune buggies on said September day in 2004 (except for Ben, who surprisingly enough did not take any pictures of himself).  Here’s a picture of the youngest person there to don a helmet, Mikaela, who was having problems seeing out of the helmet, let alone over the dashboard.

I do have one more picture of Danaya that I want to post along with a couple of stories, but I’ll leave that one for tomorrow.
